1.3  Importing data from files (and making a website)

Catalyzer can create a catalog of the files you have on your hard disk or CD. The catalog structure will match the structures of folders and subfolders you already have. For images, Catalyzer will create thumbnails in the catalog. You can add extra information to that automatically extracted from the files - e.g. notes and other annotation.

Import data from a folder using the File : Import menu

The import dialog lets you select the folder to import (click the Browse button)

  1. Select File>New from the main menu.
  2. Select File>Import>Folder... Press the Browse Open.png button to pick a folder on your computer that contains images or data that you would like to catalog. Catalyzer goes into the subfolders, so if you pick a CD drive, for example, then the catalog that is created will hold records for everything on the CD. Close the progress dialog when it finishes importing. Catalyzer should create a record for each data file, and folders to match your directory structure. The names for records and folders in the catalog will be the same as the corresponding files on the file system.
  3. Switch to class editing mode (Form.png Class Window button on the toolbar). Select a record to be extended. Press the Add.pngAdd button on the middle panel toolbar to add an extra field. Change the Field Name on the right hand panel from "Field" to "Quality".
  4. Add another field with the Add, Add.png, button. Then change its name to "notes" and this time also set the Field Type to Text Box.
  5. Switch back to record editing mode (Catalog.png Catalog Window button on the toolbar). Enter some values for the Quality field you've just created for different records.
  6. Publish to website with Publish>Publish.pngPublish Catalog... from the main menu. Press the Publish button. Close the progress dialog when it finishes. Press the View... button in the publish catalog dialog to see the generated website in your browser.
